I think I'm getting inspired finally! Last night I couldn't sleep because I kept thinking about what I want to do in the main room, built ins etc. I primed the paneling for several hours yesterday and the white helped immensely. Maybe that's why I've been feeling a little low about everything...not enough light in the house. It's definitely bright snowy white outside...makes me miss the green of my So Cal winters. Ho hum.
Anyway! Back to decorating!
I'm seeing built in display and book shelves on front wall of the family room, built up fireplace facade, coffered ceiling, and move in the antique armoire closer to the fireplace. I have the paint color picked out, it's a very light cream, and bright shiny white trim. There is currently a ceiling fan that I will replace or remove. We want to put recessed lights all over in there to add some light to the situation!
In the eating area I want to have a built in Welsh dresser made, so I can display Grandma's dishes and cute white pitchers. This will incorporate a built in seating area in front of the window also...lots of storage underneath for pillows etc. The brick will hopefully get painted in the next week or two.
The kitchen will basically get the cabinets painted, a new backsplash and fawcet for now. I am looking for new hardware for cupboards and drawers and something to replace the drop fluorescent light fixture. All big purchases will have to wait I think. For at least a year.
The laundry room is getting blue paint, new curtains, and painted white cabinets. Simple and clean.
In the spring I hope we can pour a back patio off of the sunroom. Eventually that will get covered and enclosed with a curtain of mosquito netting that can be taken down in the fall and put away for winter. This will give me somewhere to keep my outdoor furniture too, so I have more room in the sunroom.
I still hope to put French doors on our bedroom and where the sliding doors are between the sunroom and great room. Then maybe next year I will put French doors off the sunroom to the outside. It seems it's too "difficult" to punch a hole in the brick of the dining area to put the french doors. Our handy guy balked at the idea. We'll see. Just need a quick way to get from the kitchen to the outdoors to grill etc.
I had a new epiphany the other day, you know how I always wanted a front porch? Why not build one on the front of this house? If I'm going to stay here for the next 20 years (which I pray God that I am not) then I should have a porch. There's plenty of room and it will make the house look very welcoming.
